…then we’ll begin!
Stories transform us, they allow us to escape, give us permission to throw off our mundane lives and enter a whole new reality, they connect us with the fantastical, the dramatic, the adventurous, the comedic, the painful, the delightful… the limits of human experience. But in a world where the major streaming services will feed you no end of stories at the push of a button, there is still nothing so wonderful as feeling that you are part of the unfolding drama.
For these reasons we love theatre! There’s nothing more enchanting, enthralling or engrossing than a powerful story brought alive on stage. And we have been privileged to see some incredible performances, but we have also had plenty of magical moments in quirky adaptations, amateur productions, improv sessions and even the odd village panto!
There’s something magical about being there. The lights go down, the curtain rises and for a brief moment in time you can be emersed in a new world, lost in someone else’s life, cry their tears, laugh with their joy.
Quickseats started because sometimes finding these performances, especially at short notice, can be hard. We don’t always plan ahead, so we would sometimes think ‘We’re free on Saturday, is there anything on?’. This was the cue to load up a dozen bookmarked webpages of local(ish) theatres… anything within an hour’s travel. Wouldn’t it be easier if I can see them all in one place? And then we’d have the same issue if we went away for the weekend – where do I start if I want to find anything local to Bristol, Brighton or Bradford?
So, Quickseats is actually a passion project – an ode to theatre! A personal shortcut to help find a great production hiding in plain sight. An excuse to turn off the TV and spend the night in the company of a great company of artists, musicians, dancers and directors who are spending themselves on their passion – bringing brilliant theatre to communities around the country.
QuickSeats helps you discover performances at theatres near you over the coming weeks — making it easy to find something special to see, somewhere new to go, or simply a great excuse to get together.
